JU teacher recruitment halted

The High Court ordered the Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities on Tuesday to postpont the recruitment proceedings of six philosophy department lecturers until June 20. 

The HC also ordered to submit adequate documents by this time. 

An HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Md Mostafizur Rahman pass the order today after hearing on a writ petition in this regard.  

Four teachers of the Philosophy department writ a petition with the HC challenging the legality of online procedure on June 10.

Lawyer Anik R. Haque and Syeda Nasrin stood for the petitioner while Kumar Debul Dey for the philosophy department and Deputy Attorney General Arvind Kumar Roy presented at the hearing on behalf of the state.

Petitioner lawyer Syeda Nasrin said that the HC would announce the final decision after verifying the documents regarding the alleged recruitment procedure.   

Earlier, on February 2, the JU authorities published a teacher recruitment notice for 11 posts including six in the philosophy department. The JU authorities also scheduled to take the viva-voce virtually.  Applicants were notified about the online procedure just 4 days before the examination via text message.
