After about 18 months of the closure of university halls to curb Covid-19 transmission, the residential halls of Jahangirnagar University (JU) reopened on Monday (October 11).

Students, who have received minimum a single shot of Covid-19 vaccine, started entering their respective dormitories maintaining proper health guidelines from 9 am. JU authorities greeted them with flowers, masks, hand sanitizers and snacks.

The campus turned into a new look as the heart of the campus started reuniting.

“The feeling of returning to the campus cannot be expressed in words. We’ve waited almost 18 months to return to the campus,” said Lalone Mia, a third-year student of JU English department. Asif Al Amin, a resident of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hall said, “Returning to a knowing place where my friends, peers live is always exciting.  I returned to my second home after almost 18 months.”

However, in-person academic activities of the university will resume from October 21 according to the decision of the university syndicate, the highest governing body of the university.

Meanwhile, the university authorities have already been launched a vaccination centre for students on campus from yesterday at the university's Wazed Miah Science Research Center.
