JU BCL activists protest rumor

Leaders and activists of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) brought out a procession on the campus on Sunday protesting rumor and conspiracy against JU unit of BCL. On Saturday, Saimum Islam, Secretary of Jhangirnagar Theatre and a protestor of ongoing movement at JU, alleged that an organising secretary named Abhishek Mandal of JU unit of BCL assaults him. Saimum Islam filed a complaint with the proctor seeking justice.

Following the incident, the demonstrators brought out a procession instantly protesting the incident and demanding punishment of Abhishek Mandal. In face of protest, JU authorities filed a case against the Abhishek Mandal. Alluding the complain, baseless and fictional leaders and activist of JU Unit BCL brought out the procession from the Transport Yard of the campus on Sunday at 3 pm.

Marching on different roads of the campus the protest procession ended in front of Central Shaheed Minar of JU with a brief Rally. Condemning the decision of JU authority President of JU Unit BCL Jewel Rana said, “An evil group tries to destabilize the university based on mere fictitious information. As long as Chhatra League are here on the campus, no one can interrupt the infrastructural development work. I regret that the university administration has filed a case against a student. I demand reconsideration of the decision.”

Before that, around 50 teachers of JU observed work abstention protesting alleged corruption of the authorities and unplanned development work on the campus. They brought out a protest procession from New Arts Building of the campus around 11:30 am. Around 12:30 pm, some students also brought out a procession under the banner of “Jahangirngar Against Corruption” protesting the attack on Saimum Islam.
