Agitating students and teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Sunday burned effigy of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Faraza Islam demanding her removal from the post. As part of the ongoing the demonstration under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar against Corruption’, agitators brought out a protest march from Social Science faculty building around 1:00 pm yesterday.

After parading different streets and buildings in the campus, the procession ended at central Shaheed Minar premises with a brief rally. Following the rally, demonstrators burned Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam’s effigy. General Secretary of Bangladesh Students’ Union JU branch Ariful Islam Anik said, “The vice-chancellor has tarnished the image of the university through her committing unlimited corruption. Due to her dictatorship, the administrative structure of the university has collapsed. From today we will reject all office orders signed by Farzana Islam.'

Spokesperson of the movement Prof Raihan Rayne of Philosophy department said, “This vice-chancellor is a shame for Jahangirnagar University. We have rejected VC, yet she continues to work. We have sent a letter to the Chancellor to remove this Vice-Chancellor but sadly, no action has yet been taken. As a result, we are moving towards strict movements.”

Leaders and activists of Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance, Students’ Union, Socialist Students’ Front and Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatro Odhikar Parishad participated at the protest march.
