The classes for the first-year honors courses under the academic session 2022–23 of Jahangirnagar University (JU) will virtually begin on November 30, five months after the admission test.

The decision was made on Tuesday at a meeting of the Central Admission Committee with Vice-Chancellor Prof MdNurulAlam in the chair.

Syed Mohammad Ali Reza, member secretary of the committee and deputy registrar (education), confirmed the matter to the Bangladesh Post.

Ali Reza said, the classes will start virtually on November 30.He, however, did not specify when the in-person classes will begin.

We have had an accommodation crisis in our dormitories as the newly constructed four halls are still not in use. Classes will begin in person soon after the new halls open, he added.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Prof MdNurulAlam told the media, without ensuring accommodation, classes will not be started in person. The halls will be opened by recruiting manpower by November. Then we will be able to allot seats to the freshers.

Seeking anonymity, a hall provost said, at least 100 people are required to run a ten-storey hall. UGC made a request to recruit 16 freelancers, but it has yet to be authorized.

However, the admission test for this session was held from June 18 to June 25.

A total of 2049 students have been enrolled in different departments and institutes of the university.
