"The solemnity, joy and exhilaration of victory are all associated with art. Our identity has changed in the political climate. Our Bengali identity was also killed by killing the father of the nation on August 15, 1975 with his family,” said Jagannath University (JnU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim.

She said this on Sunday at the inaugural ceremony of an art camp titled “Muktijuddho O Bijay Gantha”, organized by the Fine Arts Department of JnU.

Prof. Dr. Sadeka Halim said, "Although the country was divided on the basis of religion, there were differences in our society and culture with Pakistan more than the similarities. Though we had nationalism in our constitution, everyone thought we were heading towards extremism. But Bangabandhu did not believe that."

She also said that our constitution says that we all are equal in fundamental rights but even today in many cases women and men are not equal and women are still seen as second-class citizens.

"Thousands of artists, writers, columnists, and freedom fighters collectively fought in this identity struggle. Painters have to depict these. I am very proud to be a Bengali”, she further said.

In that presided over session of the Chairman of Department of Fine Arts, Prof. Md. Alaptagin, special guests included JnU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Choudhury, DU Fine Arts faculty Dean Prof. Nisar Hossain, and JnU Fine Arts faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Hosne Ara Begum were present.
