Journos beaten inside social service office

Two journalists in Meherpur were beaten and their cameras were vandalised by some people led by District Social Service Officer Abdul Quader. 

The journalists-- DBC's District Correspondent Abu Akter Karan and Bangladesh Reuters' District Correspondent Zakir Hossain-- came under attack during performance of their professional duty at the Social Service Office in Mehepur on Sunday. 

Later, a team of Meherpur Sadar Police Station went there and rescued the journalists. In this regard, a case was filed against Abdul Quader, Sajjad Hossain, Milon Sheikh and several others with Meherpur Sadar Police Station. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Shah Dara Khan said further action would be taken subject to investigation.

The two victims said, “We went to the district social service office to collect news while, social service officer Abdul Quader took us to a secret room and detained us. Later, Abdul Quader, Sajjad Hossain, probation officer of the same office and Abdul Quader's personal driver Milon and several others beat us.”

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Meherpur Dr Munsur Alam Khan said, “I have heard the matter. Necessary action will be taken after knowing the details.”
