Journalist, service recipients assaulted in Cumilla passport office

Deputy Director (DD) of the Passport Office Nurul Huda has been accused of beating three service recipients at the Passport Office in Cumilla. Daily Bangladesh Samachar reporter Md Safi was insulted when he went to collect news. His mobile was snatched while recording video.

Such a video went viral through social media. The matter has been confirmed by Inspector (Investigation) Kamal Krishna Dhar. He said, “I got the news and went to the spot. The matter of beating of service recipients is being investigated. Deputy Director Nurul Huda claimed that the incident of insulting the journalist was due to misunderstanding.”

Homna Upazila Shakib Hossain, the victim of the beating, said, "I came to get a passport and I could not stand for a long time after fasting and sat in a chair. Three more sat with me. At that time, the DD of the passport office Md Nurul Huda came and started beating us with a plastic chair. When the chair broke, he started to slapped.

Daily Bangladesh Samachar reporter Md Safi said, I went to the passport office regarding my passport. At that time I saw the DD of the passport office beating three or four service recipients with chairs in front of me. When I asked the DD about the incident, he got aggravated and snatched my mobile phone and harassed me.” Three hours later, a senior police officer recovered the mobile phone.

Md Nurul Huda, deputy director of the Cumilla Regional Passport Office, said, "I have not beaten anyone." 

When asked to show the CCTV footage, the official said angrily, "I am not obliged to speak to anyone."
