Jagannath University Teachers Association (JnUTA) has demanded appointment of a new vice-chancellor of the university from the teachers of the university. The teachers' association made this demand through a notice on Tuesday.
Ever since the resignation of the former VC of Jagannath University, Sadeka Halim, there have been many discussions among the students and teachers about who will be the next VC. Students and teachers have been demanding since the resignation of the former VC that the VC of the university should be appointed from the university.
The association demanded the present government to appoint anyone from among the professors working in the Jagannath University to the post of Vice-Chancellor on the basis of honesty, skill, competence and experience in order to accelerate the pace of education, research and infrastructure development of the university.
According to JnUTA notice, "The respected teachers of Jagannath University have been performing their duties as Vice-Chancellors, Pro Vice-Chancellors, Treasurers of various public and private universities of the country with great reputation and efficiency, including serving as full-time members of the University Grants Commission (UGC). At the moment, around 139 teachers of Jagannath University are playing various roles in various state institutions.”
Through the notice, the association expressed disappointment that even after 18 years of its establishment, there have been no improvements in the quality of research and the construction of infrastructure such as residential halls, academic buildings, libraries, laboratories etc. Not only that, no vice-chancellors have been seen to play a sincere role in the matter of Jagannath University's second campus in Keraniganj. Because, the former vice-chancellors who came from another university only aimed at completing the tenure gracefully.
As a result, the overall development of Jagannath University is lagging year after year.
However, on Tuesday morning a combined student - teacher demonstration took place at the university “Shanto Chattar” demanding appointment of VC from the university.
