Jagannath University (JnU) has officially got its remaining 11.40 acres of land in Paschimdi Mouza of Keraniganj Upazila on Tuesday to establish its second campus, which is proposed under the Land Acquisition and Development Project.

The land acquisition wing of the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner's Office completed the transfer process.

The land transfer process was completed in the presence of Jagannath University Vice Chancellor Professor Md. Rezaul Karim. Dhaka Deputy Commissioner's Office Land Acquisition Officer Md. A. Halim and related officials handed over the possession right of the remaining 11.40 acres of land to the Jagannath University authorities.

Earlier, on the night of June 2, a notification signed by Land Acquisition Officer Md. A. Halim was issued from the Land Acquisition Branch-2 of the District Commissioner's Office to transfer the possession of the remaining 11.40 acres of land under the "Land Acquisition and Development Project" for the establishment of the second campus of Jagannath University (JnU) to the university.

However, the ECNEC meeting approved a new campus of 200 acres of land for Jagannath University in 2017. The Dhaka District Administration on January 23, 2020, handed over 188.60 acres of land to the university authorities. The work on the second campus was hampered due to the pending transfer of the remaining 11.40 acres of land. With today's transfer, the university has fully received its proposed 200 acres of land.

Excitement has been seen among the students after the acquisition of the remaining land.

Abdullah Al Mamun, a student of the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology, said, "Today we have received possession of our land. We hope that after completing our initial project by the army, the work on the Mega project will also start very soon."

Zahidul Islam Rifat, a student of the 2021-2022 session of the Department of Accounting, said, "The second campus is our vital demand and it should be implemented quickly. Although we might not get it, our future generations should be freed from the dilapidated environment of old Dhaka and get a beautiful environment to study."

During the handed over ceremony, the University Treasurer Professor Dr. Sabina Sharmin, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Professor Dr. Muhammad Manjur Murshed Bhuiyan, Registrar (Acting) Professor Dr. Md. Sheikh Gias Uddin, Controller of Examinations (Acting) Professor Dr. Mostafa Hasan, Proctor Professor Dr. Muhammad Tajammul Haque, PRIP Director, Chief Engineer, Project Director of the University and other concerned officers and employees were present.
