A courtyard meeting was held in Jibannagar to motivate farmers on the balanced use of chemical fertilizers. The meeting took place on Monday at 5 PM at the Partner Field School, Nutrition, and Farmer Service Center in Singnagar village, Uthali Union, Jibannagar Upazila.
The Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension in Chuadanga, Md. Masudur Rahman Sarker, was present as the Chief Guest.
Presided over by Jibannagar Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Alamgir Hossain, the event was attended by special guests including the Additional Deputy Director (PP) of the District Agriculture Office, Mithu Chandra Adhikari; Jibannagar Agricultural Extension Officer Pavel Rana; Plant Protection Officer Bakul Hossain; Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Yasin Ali; UP Member of Singnagar village Ahad Ali; and former UP Member Aminul Islam, among others. Before the meeting, the guests visited the safe vegetable production centers at each nutrition home.
Speakers at the meeting stated, "We are destroying the fertility of our land by using chemical fertilizers beyond our needs. To get a slightly higher yield, we are using fertilizers arbitrarily in a competitive manner. This is significantly increasing production costs and degrading soil health."
They advised, "Corn planting has now begun. For this crop, chemical fertilizers must be used in the right amounts. Per bigha of land, 67-74 kg of Urea, 32-35 kg of TSP or DAP, 32-35 kg of Gypsum, 32-35 kg of Potash, 1.5-2 kg of Zinc fertilizer, 600 grams - 1 kg of Boron, and 500-650 kg of manure should be applied."
"These fertilizers should be applied to the land in three installments. Farmers are reducing the use of organic manure and using other fertilizers more, which is decreasing soil fertility. The right amount of organic manure must be used in every field."
Following the meeting, the guests planted date palm saplings.
