Jibannagar, Darshana Free Day today

Jibannagar and Darshana Thana of Chuadanga district were freed from the clutches of Pakistani occupation army fully on December 4. Bangali people of the areas with freedom fighters chanted slogans-Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu and hoisted Bangladeshi national flag at the area of Jibannagar and Darshana. 

On November 26, 1971 Pakistani Army forces took shelter at different villages of the upazila like Utholi and Hasadah due to the increasing attack of freedom fighters. At the time, Habibur Rosul and Mozibur Rahman made administrator and officer in charge of Jibannagar Thana respectively. A jeep of Munsur Ali, captain of Pakistani army, was set on fire. About 7-8 women bodies were found at police station compound, killed by Pakistani forces. 

On information, a group freedom fighters, led by Mostafizur Rahman, Sub-sector Commander of Freedom Fighter Sector-8 and a team of joint forces, led by Major Datto and Major Borma, entered into Jibannagar crossing Dhupakhali boarder of the upazila and attacked on Pakistani Army after reaching at Uthuly and Hasadah. As a result, Pakistani Army started to go towards Jhenaidah district. As a result, Jibannagar upazila was fully liberated on December 4. 

It may be mentioned that on August 8, 1971, a front fight occurred between Freedom fighters and Pakistani Army at village Dhapakhali in Jibannagar upazila. Five freedom fighters were martyred in the fight. The martyred are Habildar Abdul Gofur, Nayek Abdur Rashid, Sipahi Abu Bakor, Sipahi Abdul Aziz and Sipahi Siddik Ali. They are buried at the same village. The graves have been fenced in honor of martyred. In the fight, five Pakistani army were also killed. 

On the other hand Darshan Thana of Chuadanga District was freed on December 4. 

Darshana Thana was occupied by the Pakistani Army at that time. They built bankers, Trance and Camps for fighting against freedom fighters and Indian Army joint forces. 

Freedom fighters, led by Noor Hakim and well trained members of Mitro Bahini, led by Mister Bufe, arrived at village Poranpur and Luknathpur of the thana on foot crossing Indian boarder Baradi on December 4 at about 2 am. Then they made trance for shelter to attack on Pakistani Army. Sensing the presence of them, Pakistani Army fired on them, freedom fighters and Mitro Bahini also returned fire. The gun fight was continuing for 3 hours. At one stage Pakistani Army stopped firing and managed to escape from Darshana. 

Three teachers of Darshana College named Lotafat Hossain Joarder, Rofiqul Islam and Nasir Uddin were martyred in liberation war. A momentum has been built up on the campus. 

Upazila Administration, Thana Administration, freedom fighter’s organization, socio-organizations and Awami League have taken various programmes following placing wreaths, discussions, rallies and cultural functions to mark the day in Jibannagar and Darshana.
