The people of Jhenidah observed the Jhenidah Free Day with festivity on Friday. The district town was liberated upon on December 6 in 1971 after nine-month bloodshed against the occupying Pakistani forces and their local collaborators. The hard earned red and green flag was hoisted in the sky of the town on the day.
To mark the day, local district administration and Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad jointly organized programmes. A colourful rally was brought from old DC Court and ended at the beginning point after parading the main roads of the town.
Later, the national flag and Muktijuddher Pataka (flag of the freedom) were hoisted at Paira Chattar. A discussion was held with deputy commissioner Saroj Kumar Nath in the chair, where Bangladesh Awami League Jhenidah district unit president and lawmaker of Jhenidah-1 seat Abdul Hyee attended as chief guest.
Jhenidah-Magura seat reserved seat lawmaker Khaleda Khanam, superintendent of police Hasanuzzaman, ex commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha sangshad Jhenidah district command Makbul Hossain among others remain present as special guests.
The speakers urged upon the people to hold the spirit of liberation war movement as called by the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mijibur Rahman and contribution of 30 lakh heroic sons and two lakhs of our mothers and sisters during the movement. The present and future generation should be ensured real facts and history of the blood earned liberation war.
