6,800 farmers in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila had received chemical fertilizer and seeds free of cost under Rabi crops production programme. The initiatives were taken by the government aiming at ensuring high yielding Boro paddy producing and make the farmers’ financial base sound.
The incentives were distributed at a simple ceremony organised by the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) at Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila Parishad premises on Tuesday morning. Presided over by upazila agriculture officer (UAO) Jahidul Karim, deputy Director of DAE at Jhenaidah Khamarbari Asgar Ali was present as chief guest.
Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdur Rashid Advocate, Vice-Chairman Rasheedur Rahman Rasel, woman Vice-Chairman Arati Dutt among others attended as special guests. Agriculture extension officer (AEO) Junayed Habib conducted the session.
DAE office sources said the farmers of Jhenaidah Sadar upazila are getting 20 kilograms of chemical fertilizer and five koligram paddy seeds to enhance the production of Boro in the season under Rabi crops production programme this season.
A number of farmers upon receiving the fertilizer and seeds free of cost, when contacted said the incentive was a blessings for them as it will reduce their production cost and ultimately benefit them financially. They had urged upon the government to continue the incentives for the betterment of the farmers and produce safe food for the nation.
