JCD activists, journalists attacked at DU

Ten people, including seven Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists and three journalists, have been injured in separate attacks on Dhaka University campus on Monday. Sources said that Chhatra Dal accused Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for attacking them but BCL denied the allegations. The injured JCD members are currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, DMCH.

The injured journalists are Anisur Rahman of Students Journal, Rahatul Islam Rafee of Dainik Pratidiner Bangladesh, Afsar Munna of Dainik Business Bangladesh. The attacks were carried out at around 12pm on Monday near TSC at campus. The injured Chhatra Dal members are currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

University’s JCD unit Joint Convener Nasir Uddin accused Dhaka University BCL unit President Sonjit Chandra Das and his supporters for the attacks in TSC area and in front of Central Library area. He also accused Chhatra League activists Hossain Mahmud Apel, Vice-President of Sir AF Rahman hall unit, Mohsin Alam Talukdar, deputy publicity secretary of DU unit, and other for the attacks.

When contacted, Sonjit Chandra Das said: “Show me the evidence [that BCL activists were involved], we will take organizational action against the accused.” “And if you can show evidence against me [revealing that I was involved], then I will resign from my post.” Responding to a query about the attacks, Dhaka University's (DU) Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani said that he has heard about the attacks. "We will take necessary steps after proper investigations," he said.
