Mujibul Haque Chunnu has been made the Secretary General of Jatiya Party, the main opposition party in the National Parliament.
Jatiya Party chairman Ghulam Muhammed Quader (GM Quader) made the announcement through a press relies issued on Saturday.
As per the press release signed by party chairman GM Quader, the appointment has been made in accordance with the powers conferred on Article 20/1 (1) of the Constitution of the Jatiya Party and it will come into effect without delay.
“Mujibul Haque Chunnu has been made the Secretary General of Jatiya Party as Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, the former Secretary General of the party died of COVID-19 on October 2”, it said.
It should be mentioned that Chunnu, a co-chairman of Jatiya Party, was also a minister earlier. He is also the chairman of the Standing Committee on Labour and Employment Ministry of the present government.
On the other hand, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, a former General Secretary of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), had served the Jatiya Party as its Secretary General for last two years. He died on October 2 while undergoing treatment.
Jatiya Party was formed by former Army ruler HM Ershad. After his death, his younger brother GM Quader became its Chairman.
