Jasimuddin’s 44th death anniv observed

The 44th death anniversary of Poet Jasimuddin, popularly known as Palli Kabi (The Rural Bard) for his poems depicting the people and nature of rural areas of the country, was observed in Faridpur on Saturday in a befitting manner. Marking the day, Faridpur district administration, Ansar Uddin High School and different other socio-cultural organisations arranged various programmes in the district, including poet’s ancestral home at Gobindapur village under Ambikapur union. 

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur Atul Sarker, Police Super Md Alimuzzaman and many others paid homage to the poet by placing wreaths at his grave in the morning. They also observed one-minute silence there. 

Later, a discussion and doa mahfil was held at poet’s ancestral home. Atul Sarker attended the discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ruksana Rahman in the chair.  Among others, Police Super Alimuzzaman, ADC Mohammad Aslam Molla, Additional District Magistrate Dipok Kumar Roy, Additional Police Super Jamal Pasha, Prof MA Samad and Prof. Mohammad Shahjahan took part in the discussion.

Palli Kobi Jasimuddin died on March 14 in 1976 in Dhaka. He was born on January 1 in 1903 at his maternal uncle’s house at Tambulkhana village in Faridpur Sadar. He served as a lecturer at Dhaka University. He was an officer of the Bengal Provincial Government and later served in the Publicity Department of the Government of erstwhile East Pakistan, from where he ended his working life. His famous poem ‘Kabar’ made him known as an important poet in Bengali literature. He composed this piece when he was a student of Calcutta University. It was included in the curriculum of Intermediate class in that time.

The poet’s first book of poems ‘Rakhali’ was published in 1927. His notable some other poem books include Nakshi Kantha Maidan (1929), Sojan Badiar Ghat (1934), Matir Kannah (1951). Palli Kabi Jasimuddin received a number of awards, He received Ekushey Padak in 1976. He also received UNESCO Award and Rabindra Bharati Award.
