Jashore Dist Transport Workers Union polls held

Azizul Alam Mintu has been elected as the president and Selim Reza Mithu as the general secretary of the Jashore District Transport Workers' Union (Reg-227).

The tri-annual election was held in a festive mood at Jashore Government City College on Friday (February 5). Votes were counted on Saturday. Secretary of the Election Management Committee Mahabubur Rahman Majnu announced the results of the election at about 8:00 pm on Saturday. 

Azizul Alam Mintu was elected as president with 4,104 votes. His only rival Mamunur Rashid Bachchu got 2,843 votes. Selim Reza Mithu was elected as the general secretary with 4,800 votes. His only rival Mortaza Hossain got 2,391 votes.

Abu Hasan, Shahed Hossain Jony and Rabiul Islam Lobin have been elected as vice-presidents. Sasthi Dutta has won the post of joint secretary. Kamrul Islam and Mujibur Rahman have been elected as assistant secretary. Harun-Or-Rashid Phulu has won the post of organizational secretary. Abdul Wadud has won the post of treasurer. Mizanur Rahman Mizu has won the post of publicity secretary. Besides, Mizanur Rahman, Tariqul Islam, Rabiul Islam, Abdur Razzak, Abdur Rauf and Asif Khan have been elected as executive members. 

In this election, 63 candidates contested against 17 posts. Out of the total 9,143 voters, 7,644 exercised their franchise. Advocate Md. Idris Ali acted as the Chairman of the Election Steering Committee.
