Japan’s contribution to higher education, tech education in Bangladesh lauded

JICA team visits CU, CUET campuses

Vice Chancellor Chittagong University Prof Dr. Shireen Akhtar, Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam and many other faculty members of the two universities lauded the contributions of Japan in various sector in Bangladesh. 

They said that cooperation of Japan in developing higher education and technical education for the development of modern skilled human resources will play a special role in the development and progress of Bangladesh.  

Faculty members of the two Bangladeshi universities said these while a delegation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited the CU and CUET campuses in Chattogram.

During the visit at Chittagong University, JICA Human Development Division Senior Advisor Dr Koichiro Watanabe, former vice-president of Kiyusu University, Japan and representative of JICA Bangladesh Office Chinatsu IHA held a courtesy call on CU VC Profe Dr. Shireen Akhtar.

CU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Benu Kumar Dey, CU Science Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasim Hasan, CU IQAC Director Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abdullah Mamun, CU Museum Director Prof. Dr. Mohammad Bashir Ahmed, ICT Director Prof. Dr. Mohammad Khairul Islam, Prof. Dr. AHM Raihan Sarkar, Prof. Dr. Md. Aftab Uddin, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Fazlul Kader, Professor Dr. Muhammad Sanaullah Chowdhury and Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Amin were also present at the meeting, among others. 

CU VC said that Japan is a friendly country that supports the development of Bangladesh.  In addition to the cooperation of the Japanese government in various projects in the development and progress of Bangladesh, the contribution that Japan is making to the development of skilled human resources in the country is highly commendable.

She said that teacher-student exchange is ongoing in the field of higher education and research of Chittagong University with various universities in Japan.

JICA also sought the cooperation in establishing a central lab in CU for the development of higher education and research. The members of the JICA delegation were impressed by the beautiful CU campus and expressed their interest in the peaceful learning environment and research labs of the University and assured their cooperation in the field of higher education and research in the university.

Later, the CU Vice-Chancellor along with the delegation visited the research labs of the CU Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology.

Meanwhile, CUET VC  Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam exchanged views with the JICA delegation on CUET campus on Sunday. 

JICA's delegation included Takahashi Tomoe, Head of Division-4 (Bangladesh) of JICA's South Asia Division, Senior Advisor of Human Resource Development Department Dr. Watanabe Koichiro, Higher Education and Social Security Team Program Officer Tomita Norofumi, JICA Bangladesh Office Representative Chinatsu IHA. At this time, Dean of Engineering and Technology Faculty of CUET Prof. Dr. Sunil Dhar, Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Moinul Islam, Dean of Electrical and Computer Technology Faculty Prof. Dr. Mohammad Moshiul Haque, Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty and University Registrar (Additional Charge) Prof.  Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Dean of Architecture and Planning Faculty Prof. Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Hasan were also present.

During the exchange of views, CUET and JICA assured about bilateral cooperation in education and research.  Later the JICA delegation visited the classrooms and laboratories of various departments including CUET Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator.
