Japan co keen to invest in Bangladesh

Kashiwamura Akira and Sakamoto Takuya of Japan's Shimizu Corporation along with the leaders of The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry held an exchange meeting on Wednesday morning at the Chamber's office at the World Trade Center.

 In the meeting, information was presented by Bangladesh Center of Excellence (BCE) for attracting investment in Bangladesh.  After the discussion, the delegation visited the Japan Desk located at the Chittagong Chamber.

 Chamber President Mahbubul Alam, Chamber Directors Anjan Shekhar Das, Md Rakibur Rahman (Tutul), Engineer Iftekhar Hossain, Sazeer Ahmed, Md Iftekhar Faisal, SM Tahsin Jonaid and Mohammad Adnanul Islam, Former Senior Vice President of the Chamber Omar Hajjaz, Reliance Assets and Developments (BD) Ltd. Director Omar Moqtadir, Joint Convener Engineer SM Shahidul Alam and Member Aqib Kamal of Chamber Four IR Sub-Committee, Managing Partner Engineer Md Ikram Uddin, GPH Ispat Salehin Musfiq Sadaf, Jr. Chamber Director Syed Abul Hasnat were present.

 Chamber President Mahbubul Alam said, Japan is a tested friend of Bangladesh.  Japan is working on the implementation of large mega projects including the third terminal of Matarbari deep sea port and Dhaka airport in Bangladesh.

 He said, Chittagong Chamber has launched Japan Desk to further promote Japan-Bangladesh business relations.  Through this, the businessmen of the two countries will be able to exchange the necessary information for joint investment in various sectors.  This type of private to private meeting will play an important role in increasing the commercial relations between the two countries.  He called for skill development in various sectors including engineering and construction as well as joint investment with Bangladeshi businessmen.

 Kashiwamura Akira of Japan's Shimizu Corporation said that large Japanese companies are interested in investing in Bangladesh.  In this regard, Chittagong is geographically important.  Shimizu Corporation is keen to work in Chittagong in Civil, Mechanical Engineering and Technical Sector especially in the private sector overall construction through partnership with Bangladeshi organizations.  He expressed the hope of expanding investment and setting up office of Shimizu Corporation in Chittagong.

  Businessmen said that Chittagong has become an attractive region for investment and trade due to geographical location and increasing infrastructural development.  The top businessmen participating in the meeting expressed their interest in joint ventures in engineering, mechanical and technical sectors with various organizations like Japan's Shimizu Corporation while maintaining the continuity of development cooperation in Bangladesh.
