Japanese ambassador Ito Naoki has visited the project site of Japanese grants in Bandarban.

During the visit on Thursday, he attended the handover ceremony of the “The Project for Providing Bus Service for the Students and the Community Teachers in Bandarban District” to be implemented by JAAGO Foundation and supported by the government of Japan through the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP).

The project is expected to help improve the commuting environment for students and teachers, and provide access to education and continued learning in Bandarban, the Japan embassy said.

Korvi Rakshand, Executive Director of JAAGO Foundation, volunteers of JAAGO Foundation and other guests also attended the ceremony.

“I hope the school bus will help facilitate the access to education by students and teachers and help them go to school more safely and comfortably”, Ambassador ITO said.

The Japanese government has prioritised the education sector for assistance.

Based on Japan's experience and achievements, Japan has been providing support for improving teacher training methods and teaching materials through funding the Bangladeshi "Primary Education Development Program" and sending experts in order to improve the quality of primary education.

The GGHSP began in 1989 and has been contributing to social development at the grassroots level. To date, $16.25 million has been extended to 208 projects in Bangladesh by the government of Japan.
