Jamuna swells at Sirajganj

The water level in Sirajganj's Jamuna River is rising rapidly due to the hill slope coming down from the upstream. In the last 24 hours, the water level in Jamuna River has increased by 43 cm. At the same time, the water in the internal rivers of the district has also started to rise. The people of the riverside area are in fear. With this, the water of Jamuna has increased for the fifth time this year.

Sirajganj Water Development Board sub-divisional engineer Ranjit Kumar Sarkar confirmed the increase in water on Friday afternoon.

According to the Water Development Board, in the last 24 hours, the Jamuna water has increased by 43 cm in the city protection area and is flowing 80 cm below the water line (water line-13.35 m).

On the other hand, at the Meghai Ghat point of Kazipur, the water of this river has risen by 36 cm and is flowing 85 cm below the water line (water line - 15.25 m).

According to the Water Development Board office, it is raining heavily in the two Indian states of Assam and Meghalaya. Due to this, the water in the Jamuna is rising rapidly due to the hill slopes coming down from the upstream. 

The water in Jamuna is increasing for the last four days. The water will rise for a few more days. As a result, there is a danger that the river water will flow over the danger level.

In the beginning of June 2022, the water in Jamuna started to rise for the first time in the year. 

On June 18, the waters of the Jamuna crossed the threshold at all points in the district. The water started receding from 23rd June. 

In the second phase, the water started rising again from June 29. After that, the water began to decrease from July 3. On July 23, the third phase of increase and from August 6 began to decrease. 

After 25 consecutive days on August 31, the water of Jamuna suddenly increased. Two weeks later, on September 26, the water started to rise in the fourth phase. In the fifth phase, since October 10, the water in the Jamuna has started to increase rapidly again.
