Jamalpur Rangamatia village free of early marriage

Rangamatia village in Jamalpur, which was usually known as the early marriage-prone area in the district, has been declared free from early marriage.

The announcement came at a discussion programme, organised by Jamalpur Area Program, at  Rangamitia village of Lakshirchar Union of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila. 

Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Litus Lawrence Chiran presided over the meeting. Sadar Upazila Chairman Abul Hossain spoke as the chief guest.

Jahangir Salim, Human Resource Development Director of Unyanan Sangh conducted the event.  UP Member Hasi Begum, Jamalpur AP Area Manager Sagar De Costa, Development Association Area Program Manager Minara Parveen, among others spoke at the meeting.

More than 150 women and men participated in the meeting.

Sources said that with the help of the Jamalpur Area Program, the Village Development Committee, youth, youth, and youth are working to make the village clean, healthy, environment-friendly and free from child marriage.  They are cleaning village roads and streets, setting up dustbins in populated areas for garbage management, no child is left out of school, trying to eliminate polythene, planting trees, creating nurseries, distributing leaflets to prevent dengue, stopping child marriage and doing various humanitarian and social work.  In the meeting Rangamatia village was declared as child marriage free and environment friendly village.  After the meeting, mosquito nets were distributed among the children to prevent dengue.

Jamalpur Area Program implemented by World Vision and Development Association with the support of Hong Kong Government has started 10-year work in Jamalpur Municipality, Lakshirchar, Sharifpur Union.
