Jamaat-Shibir men clash with police in capital

Vnruly leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir carried out attack on law enforcers in different parts of the capital Dhaka when the war crime scandal-hit radical party attempted to bring out anti-government procession.

According to the police sources, Jamaat-Shibircadres engaged in clashes in city’s Malibagh and Paltan areas leaving several police personnel injured.

Dozens of Jamaat-Shibirmen attacked police when police tried to bar them from bringing out procession as the authority did not allow the extreme right wing party to take out any procession.

When a Jamaat-Shibir procession reached the Mouchak intersection from Abul Hotel area of Rampura, the policemen requested them to halt. Suddenly the policemen came under attack from the Jamaat-Shibir activists. Sensing trouble, additional police came to the spot. Later, police dispersed the procession.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of New Market Division Shahen Shah Mahmud  told that  Jamaat-Shibir men attacked police in front of Malibagh Tower.

He further said, several policemen were injured in the attack. However, police then dispersed the Jamaat men from the spot.

However, police detained several Jamaat men from the procession.

The Jamaat-Shibiractivists also launched attack on police in city’s Paltan area. The clash was ensued in front of Surma Tower in Paltan area of the capital.

According to eyewitnesses, the Jamaat-Shibircadres started shouting slogans from an alley opposite BaitulMukarram. Police fired bullets to disperse the crowd and detained a few of them right after Juma prayers.

According to Inspector Salahuddin Mia, officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station, a procession was heading from BaitulMukarram area towards Paltan intersection after Juma prayers.

He told that police dispersed the processionists and detained five of them from the spot.
