The Jail Killing Day was observed across the country on Sunday commemorating the assassinations of four national leaders who were brutally murdered inside the Dhaka Central Jail. Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, M Mansur Ali and AHM Qamaruzzaman were killed on November 3 in 1975, just 79 days after the August 15 massacre.
The ruling Awami League, its front bodies, and several socio-cultural organisations arranged various programmes across the country marking the day. The local administrations also observed the day by holding various programmes.
Speakers in their speeches have demanded exemplary punishments to the killers of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his near and dear ones as most of the killers are staying outside the country immediate after fall of the BNP government. They demanded to bring the killers back home as early as possible to execute them before the nation.
In Rajshahi, in observance of the day, Nirapad Sarak Chai (NSC), Rajshahi district unit organised a discussion at its Luxmipur office, reports our Regional Correspondent.
Presided over by Toufique Ahsan Titu, President of NSC, the discussion meeting was addressed, among others, by Waliur Rahman Babu, Vice-President of NSC, Sultan Mahmud Sumon, General Secretary, Saban Ali Dilip, Abdul Wahab, Masuduzzman Kazal, Dr. Abid and Tomal.
Paying due respect of four martyred national leaders, speakers at the meeting said, national leader martyred AHM Kamaruzzaman Hena was the favourite leader of all people, irrespective of party affiliation. He hoped, with the abled leadership of AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Mayor of RCC, Advisor of NSC and son of the martyred AHM Kamaruzzaman was designing Rajshahi city as the one of the finest cities of the region. They mentioned, the contribution of four national martyred leaders would never be obliterated. The speakers at the meeting also expressed their gratitude towards the government for enacting New Traffic Law and called everyone to remain alert to observe the regulations of the new traffic rules.
In Pabna, students, teachers and employees of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) observed the day on the campus with due solemnity, reports our Pabna Correspondent.
A mourning rally was brought out on the campus in the morning. The rally rounded the campus area and finally Vice-chancellor of PUST, Prof Dr M Rostom Ali placed wreath at Bangabandhu mural and M Mansur Ali sculptor.
At that time, treasurer of PUST Dr Md Anwar Khashru Parvej, different committee, administration officers along with others were also present.
In Jhenidah, the day was observed in the district with due solemnity. The day programme began with hoisting national and black flag at the district office of Awami League by Jheniidah-1 MP Abdul Hyee, reports our Roving Correspondent
The ruling party men observed one-minute silence to show respect to the four national leaders. Later a discussion was held at Jhenidah Shilpakala Academy. The organisers also arranged milad and dowa mahfil seeking eternal peace of the departed souls.
In Bogura, marking the day, the district Awami League organised a discussion at the party office in the morning, reports our Bogura Correspondent.
President of district Awami League Dr Mokbul Hossain presided over the meeting, while it was addressed, among others, by district unit’s general secretary Mojibur Rahman Majnu, Tohajjol Hossain Dulu, Adv Abdul Matin, Abul Kalam Azad, Adv Mokbul Hossain Mukul, Adv Rejaul Karim Montu, Adv Amanullah, Ragebul Ahsan Ripu, Mojurul Alom Mohon, Pradip Kumer Roy, Asadur Rahman Dulu, Monsur rahman Monnu, Sultan Mahmud Khan Rony along with others were also present.
In Kishoreganj, the district administration brought out a mourning rally in the district town. Later, a discussion was held on the premises of Kishoreganj 250 Bed General Hospital, reports our Kishoreganj Correspondent.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kishoreganj Md. Sarowar Murshed Chowdhury presided over the meeting. It was addressed, among others, by Zila Parishad Chairman Md. Zillur Rahman, Police Super Md. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, and district Awami League General Secretary Advocate M. A Afzal.
Marking the day, special prayers were offered in mosques, temples and other religious institutions.
In Kushtia, the day was observed by the Islamic University (IU) authority in Kushtia with due solemnity, reports our IU Correspondent.
Marking the day, IU authority organized a rally to show respect to the departed souls in front of the administrative building of the university at around 11:15 am.
Vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari led the rally that paraded different parts on the campus.
IU pro vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Prof DR M Selim Toha and its acting registrar S M Abdul Latif participated the rally along with more than 200 hundred officials of the university.
A Doa Mahfil was also held at the administrative building seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the four national leaders who were brutally assassinated in Dhaka jail on this day in 1975.
