IUB holds book review session on S Asia in Global Power Rivalry

A book review session on the book titled, “South Asia in Global Power Rivalry – Inside-out Appraisals from Bangladesh” took place on Monday at the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) library in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The book was edited by Professor Imtiaz Hussain, head, Global Studies and Governance Programme and dean (acting), School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at IUB.

Dr Gowher Rizvi, International Affairs adviser to the Prime Minister attended the event as the chief guest, delivered his remarks and underscored various segments of the book for IUB students.

On the occasion, Abul Hasan Chowdhury, former State minister for Foreign Affairs; A Matin Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB; Towhid Samad, chairman, Board of Trustees, Chittagong Independent University and Professor Milan Pagon, vice chancellor (VC) (acting) also put their valuable assessments on the book.

The notable book was also extensively reviewed by its editor Profesor Imtiaz Hussain; Mohammad Aminul Karim, dean, SB, IUB; Tariq Ahmad Karim, Former ambassador to the USA, Iran, India and South Africa; Geoffrey Macdonald, Resident Programme director, International Republic Institute; and Major General (retd) Mohammad Ashab Uddin, Former ambassador.

Contributors of the book Dr ANM Shibly Noman Khan and Hossain Ahmed Taufiq, faculties at IUB also took part in the discussion and stated their views on relevant chapters.

While reviewing, discussants focused on crosscutting issues of geopolitics, transformation of power and democracy. They also thanked IUB for encouraging and supporting this kind of activity that will inspire the faculty members to a great extent and engage IUB students to quest for new knowledge.

A lively question-answer session took place in the end.
