IU runs without VC, treasurer

The Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia is running into a stagnant condition due to the vacancies of its vice chancellor and treasurer over a month, said IU registrar office sources.

All the academic and administrative activities of the university are being hindered for the absence of the two main guardians while the teachers of IU Laboratory School,  security personnel Ansars and general employees of the university living dehumanized life as their salary allowance is stopped for remaining vacant of the posts.

IU registrar in charge SM Abdul Latif told Bangladesh Post that many important academic and administrative files stuck for the lack of VC and treasurer and it was impossible to give salary allowance to teachers, officers and staffs.

If the government does not appoint anyone to the posts in this month, it will not be possible to pay the salary of September month around taka 10 crores for teachers and officials of the university, he added.

Sources said, the term of IU 12th vice chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid and Treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha was ended on August 20 and August 21 respectively.

There is stagnant conditions predominating in the educational activities in most departments of the university whereas the students suffering more not publishing results who had already completed their graduation examination due to the lack of the guardians on the campus.

The vacancies of VC and treasurer have had a major impact on administrative works and the term of chairmen of several departments has expired but it is not possible to appoint a new chairman for those departments.

However, various offices are open for emergency purpose in the pandemic corona virus but they acting like dormant while the current pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman is trying to move the administrative work forward but it is not possible to keep the necessary files signature and economic activities going due to the lack of jurisdiction.

The current development project work of taka 75 crores under 10 projects on the campus is coming to a halt where the 35 percent works have already completed.

IU Acting chief Engineer M Alimuzzaman Tutul said, tender for renovation of some halls was disclosed during the vacation but it have been stopped for decision and new tender cannot be called except VC and  treasurer.

There have been many tenders but work orders cannot be given and for this the work will not be completed within stipulated time, he worried. Besides, around a dozen senior teachers of the university are vying to get the high most positions on the campus and lobbying with the government high-ups.
