‘Iti Tomari Dhaka’ going to Oscars

This year, the country's first omnibus film 'Iti Tomari Dhaka' will compete in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars.

The Bangladesh Committee has invited Bangladeshi films to be nominated in the 'Foreign Language' category for the 93rd Academy Awards Oscars. Impress Telefilm's film 'Iti Tomari Dhaka' and Khana Talkies' 'Made in Bangladesh' were submitted there.

The 93rd Oscar Bangladesh Committee finalized the film 'Iti Tomari Dhaka' on November 26 after seeing two films at the Ashirbad Film Office in Kakrail.

The matter was confirmed by Robin Shams, Media Coordinator of the Oscar Bangladesh Committee.

Habibur Rahman Khan, chairman of the Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies and Oscar Committee, Professor Abdur Selim, a film researcher, Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, president of the Film Directors Association, filmmaker Pankaj Palit and filmmaker Shamim Akhtar and others were present.

Committee chairman Habibur Rahman Khan regretted that it was not possible to announce the selected film at a press conference due to Corona.

The film is based on the slogan 'Sholpo Doirgho Jatra' - produced by Abu Shahed Emon. It has 11 short films with different stories. Such a collection is called Omnibas movie.

The film basically represents 11 types of people living in Dhaka city. It shows the pain of surviving each of them in the heart of the city.

Earlier, the film had participated in various international film festivals in Indonesia, India, Cambodia, Russia, South Korea, and others. Its world premiere was held at the 23rd Busan International Film Festival in South Korea on October 2018.

It also won Russian Guild of Film Critics’ Award at Kazan International Muslim Film Festival.

Fazlur Rahman Babu, Intekhab Dinar, Tisha, Dilruba Hossain Doyel, Orchita Sporshia, Rawnok Hasan, Sardar Saniat Hossain, among others, had acted in the film.
