Ishwarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ariful Islam Prince was injured in a road accident when he was performing his election duty for Upazila Polls in Harirampur area under Phulpur Upazila of Mymensingh on early Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh, Dider-E-Alam Mohammad Maksud Chowdhury, said Ishwarganj UNO received injury in his head and hand in the accident. He was admitted to hospital.
Sources said a Sherpur-bound passenger bus collided head on with the vehicle carrying Ishwarganj UNO in Harirampur area under Phulpur Upazila of the district at 5:30 am while the UNO was performing his election duty for the Upazila Election, leaving him injured critically. The UNO was rescued and admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Bodyguard of the UNO, Al-Amin Hossain, said the accident took place when the UNO was returning to Phulpur Upazila Sadar after providing the voting ballot at the polling center. The driver of the passenger bus escaped the scene immediately. The helper of the bus was nabbed after a chase in the area.
Sub-Inspector of Phulpur Police Station, Kamal Ahmed, said the front side of the car carrying the UNO was smashed. Ishwarganj UNO was injured critically in the accident. The bus was seized in this connection.
