The post of principal of Ishwardi Government College in Pabna has been vacant for more than two and a half months. Due to the absence of the principal, various activities including administrative and academic activities of the college are being disrupted. Hafiza Khatun Associate Professor of the Physics Department is now the Acting Principal of the College.
According to college sources, on July 21, 2021, when the principal Professor Abdur Rahim was transferred elsewhere, the vice-principal Professor Zakirul Haque was made the acting principal. Professor Zakirul retired on December 21 of the same year. Since then, the post of college principal has been vacant.
Ishwardi Government College was established in 1963. The college has honors courses for higher secondary, degree and 12 subjects. In all, there should be 58 teachers, but there are only 42. There are 16 vacancies for principal and vice-principal. However, 12 contracted teachers are teaching in the classroom. Talking to a teacher, it is informed that the overall activities have come to a standstill as the number of officers and employees is less than required.
Meanwhile, due to vacancies in the posts of more than one teacher, teaching in the classrooms of about eight thousand students with honors in higher secondary, degree and 12 departments is being severely disrupted. Students have expressed their displeasure over the dumping of construction materials in piles of sand and gravel on the college campus and the unsanitary condition of the classroom. Classes for HSC first year students have started from Wednesday. The students complained that the college authorities did not take notice of these issues even though the college campus was full of new students.
The construction materials have been dumped in piles of sand and cobble on the college campus. The benches in the classrooms and the floor are littered with dust and sand. The construction work of a six-storey academic building of the college named 'Mozammel Haque Social Science Building' was inaugurated on November last year. Work has been put on hold after doing a little work after the inauguration. At that time, after bringing sand and coal for work, they were not removed from the campus. Talking to three or four first year students of HSC, they said that this college is one of the traditional colleges of Ishwardi. ‘Sand dunes on campus, dust in classrooms, dilapidated buildings. The condition of Ishwardi Government College is so delicate that I did not think of it before. ' The principal of Ishwardi Government College should be appointed soon.
Acting Principal of the College Hafiza Khatun said that the Government College is a significant educational institution in Ishwardi. The test results of the students are also satisfactory. There are some problems in college. I am trying my best to keep the classroom clean and tidy and to maintain the college learning environment. He said that these materials were brought to the college when the construction work of the six-storey academic building started.
