The construction work of a road at Bhuapur in Tangail has not been completed yet but the roadside palasiting has collapsed already within a month due to poor quality of work.
Visiting the spot, such a dilapidated condition of paving of road from Monaim Kha's house to Khalil's house in Jhanjhaniya of Falda union of the upazila was seen.
According to the Upazila LGED office, LGED has started construction of the road to improve the living standards of the people of Jhanjhania village in Falda union of the upazila, to make it easier for school-going students to move and to market
the agricultural products produced in the area.
In 2018-2019 fiscal year, under the Important Rural Infrastructure Development Project (IRIDP-2), 750 meters of road development work was started in Jhanjhania.
As there is a canal on the side of the main road, the construction cost was fixed at Tk 87 lakh 13 thousand 192 by adding palasiting. The construction work was given to the contractor titled Lohajong Enterprise. Later, Farhad Hossain bought the construction work from Lohajong Enterprise as a sub-contractor. However, the contractor could not complete the construction work even though the work period ended.
Helal Uddin Master of Jhanjhania village said the road work has just started. Palasiting work was completed on one side of the road which is of very low quality. As a result, within a few days it broke down and fell into the canal. The contractor is managing the engineers of LGED in charge and working as per his wish.
Sohag, Mojibar and Mubarak Hossain of the same village said that the contructor had committed irregularities in the construction work. Made low quality palasiting and filled it with sand. Later rain and flood waters came, so the sand collapsed and it broke.
Contractor Farhad Hossain said the work was procured from the contractor Lohajong Enterprise. At first, the people of the area did not provide land to build the roads. Many even demanded money. The duration of work was extended by application. Road palasiting was broken due to floods it will be made again.
Moniruzzaman Khan, Assistant Engineer of LGED said the road paving work in Jhanjhania area was broken after work. The contractor is renovating it. The construction work was not completed as the work was stopped due to floods. However, the work is ongoing. The paving of the road was broken during the flood.
