Locals of Shailkupa upazila complained that night guard, clerk and janitors have been taking classes when the school management committee (SMC) president had swept over the headmaster and other staffs of Hazi Mohammad Shamsuddin junior high school under Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah when the educational institution was enrolled as a nationalized one.

The SMC president Shahabuddin Ahmed Sabu, along with the newly appointed headmaster Ranajit Kumar has been doing brisk business in the name of staff recruitment, alleged some of the teachers and staff terminated by the SMC. As a result the quality of education has been deteriorating when the learners were leaving the school, said the locals. Locals have demanded impartial probe in to the matter to the higher authorities including district administration and anti corruption commission (ACC).

Locals said Some Asaduzzaman, Nasirul Islam, Amir Hamza, Rachana Khatun and some others had been serving as teachers in Hazi Mohammad Shamsuddin junior high school since its inception in 2012. They had been providing education among the learners of the area free of cost hoping a job in near future in the school. Finding no future the founding headmaster Nazrul Islam left the school. The institution was nationalized recently.

Taking the advantages of nationalization, the SMC president Shahabuddin Sabu with the cooperation of and the headmaster Ranajit Kumar has been collecting several lakhs of Taka from the intending candidates for teachers and other positions. They said Ranajit Kumar had joined the school in 2020, while his appointment was shown as 2013 in “backdate”.

Sabu had ordered the founding teachers not to step in to the school premises anymore. He had submitted a new list of the teachers and staff to concern education office where the names of the previous teachers and staffs were dropped.

When this correspondent along with some other media activists visited the school, witnessed a total of 12 students were present in the school. The daptari was teaching the students of class eight. The learners expressed their opinion that most of the students stopped when the committee leaders had imposed ban on the previous teachers. Now the night guard, aya and daptari (peon) have been taking classes of the minor students.

They said they were worried as the secondary school certificate examination was rescheduled for a few days later on September 15.

Student’s guardian Manirul Islam with agitation said it was inhuman as the teachers serving in the school since inception were driven away by the SMC president Sabu and new headmaster Ranajit Kumar.

Hazi Mohammad Shamsuddin junior high school SMC president Shahabuddin Sabu when contacted said they had submitted list of the teachers and other staffs accordng to the rules for approval. District education officer (DEO) in Jhenaidah Manirul Islam when contacted said they were in receipt of a demand letter about the teachers and staff. The higher authorities will take necessary measures in the issue, DEO said.
