The much-anticipated Iran-Bangladesh joint production Fereshteh is set to release across the country today. Directed by Iranian filmmaker Morteza Atashzamzam, the film was shot in Bangladesh three years ago in collaboration with Bangladeshi producer and actor Suman Faruk.
The movie, which tells the poignant stories of marginalized communities and working-class struggles, has already made waves at international film festivals. It received acclaim at the prestigious Fajr Film Festival in Iran for its humanistic storytelling and has also been featured at the Dhaka International Film Festival and the Goa International Film Festival in India.
Speaking about the release, Suman Faruk said, “Fereshteh captures the lives of people often overlooked by society. We have received significant praise abroad, and we hope our local audiences will respond with equal appreciation.”
The film also stars celebrated Bangladeshi actress and co-producer Jaya Ahsan, who described her role as “challenging yet rewarding.” She portrayed a character representing resilience and courage among the underprivileged. “The cooperation of the entire cast and crew made it possible to complete the shoot successfully,” she added.
The screenplay was written by Mumit Al-Rashid, Dr. Md. Mumit Al Rashid , Associate Professor & Chairman, Department of Persian Language and Literature, University of Dhaka with translation work by Faisal Ifran to adapt it for both Farsi and Bangla audiences.
Other notable cast members include Shahiduzzaman Selim, Shahed Ali, Rikita Nandini Shimu, Shahin Mridha, and child actor Sathi.
Producer Suman Faruk emphasized that while the film highlights societal struggles, it also celebrates human resilience and culture. “Our story shows a side of Bangladesh rarely depicted in cinema, giving a voice to the marginalized. We look forward to audiences’ applause this Friday,” he said.
With a combination of heartfelt storytelling, powerful performances, and cross-cultural collaboration, Fereshteh promises to be one of the year’s most talked-about releases in Bangladeshi cinemas.
