An inter-school debate competition focusing on plastic pollution, environmental and nature conservation, protection of the school environment, developing environmentally responsible citizens among today’s children, and building inclusive schools was held at Cheinda Government Primary School in Ramu Upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The debate competition was organized by RDRS Bangladesh under the Promoting GESI Project and held yesterday at the school auditorium. The event was implemented through the LIKE Club of Cheinda Government Primary School.
The District Primary Education Officer of Cox’s Bazar, Md Shahin Mia, attended the programme as the chief guest. Special guests included Assistant District Primary Education Officer Gulshan Akhter, President of Cox’s Bazar Press Club Md Mahbubur Rahman, Project Manager of IDRS Bangladesh Syeda Nure Nabila Tabassum, and Upazila Education Officer Md Hanif Mia, among others.
A total of 20 students, divided into two groups, participated in the debate competition. Speaking for the affirmative team were Saberia Jannat, Mohammad Bappi, and Pahariya Amrin Ispa. Representing the opposition team were Mahia Sultana Pakhi, Md Ridwan, and Samia Sultana.
Following a lively debate, the opposition team emerged as the winner, while Samia Sultana was declared the Best Speaker of the competition.
The panel of judges comprised Upazila Education Officer Md Hanif Mia, Headmaster of Ramu Khijari High School Nurul Hossain, and Headmaster of North Mithachhari Government Primary School Fakhruddin Titu.
During the competition, students debated various environmental issues, including conservation of the school environment, prevention of plastic pollution, and the use of glass bottles instead of plastic water bottles. The guests also discussed ways to nurture children as environmentally friendly and responsible citizens of the future.
At the end of the programme, prizes were distributed among the winning team as well as all participating students.
