Integrated efforts must for safety of transport passengers

Integrated efforts of all entities concerned including Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP), Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and other stakeholders can be the best way of making transports of passengers and goods in the metropolis safe.

All concerned, particularly the drivers, helpers, guardians and community people, should come forward and work together to ensure road safety.

Police and BRTA officials, academics and representatives of other stakes made the observation while addressing a meeting of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Passengers and Goods Transport Committee at the RMP headquarters conference hall in Rajshahi on Tuesday.

"Ain Mene Sarake Chali, Smart Bangladesh Gore Tuli" was the slogan of the meeting.

With RMP Commissioner Bilob Bijoy Talukder in the chair, BRTA Deputy Director Kamrul Hassan and Prof Kamruzzaman Sarker from the Department of Civil Engineering at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) disseminated their expertise on the issue in the meeting.

RMP Additional Commissioner Bijoy Basak, Deputy Commissioners Saifuddin Shahin, Ariful Haque, Anirban Chakma and Abdur Raquib and Assistant Engineer of the RCC Abdul Aziz also spoke.

The RMP Commissioner said they have been working relentlessly for promoting a sound traffic system as road accidents bring long-lasting pains and sufferings to many families.

 They are also putting emphasis on raising awareness on road safety among people to control accidents.

Various issues, including road safety, reduction of traffic jams, passengers' services and traffic discipline, were discussed elaborately in the meeting.
