Int’l symposium on empowering library professionals held at DU

A day-long International Symposium on “Empowering the Library and Information Professionals for Achieving the SDGs” was held on Monday at Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of Dhaka University (DU).

Vice-Chancellor of DU Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the symposium as chief guest. The Department of Information Science and Library Management of DU organised this event to celebrate “Mujib Year 2020”.

Chairman of the Department of Information Science and Library Management Professor Dr Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq presided over the inaugural session while Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr Md Shajahan Miah addressed it as special guest.

Professor Dr Samuel K W Chu of the University of Hong Kong delivered plenary speech.

Professor Akhtaruzzaman urged the library professionals to play an effective role in achieving Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. He stressed the need for inclusive and quality education to achieve these goals.

Library professionals must contribute to promote quality education and enhance literacy rate through providing information and other facilities to the people, he added.
