Int’l Mother Language Day oboserved in Chattogram

Chattogram district administration is holding colourful programs for two days on the occasion of the celebration of Great Martyr's Day and International Mother Language Day.  

The main program of the day started with the laying of wreaths at the temporary Shaheed Minar on the premises of Chattogram Municipal Model School and College on the first hour of Ekushey February.  At sunrise, the national flag is kept at half-mast in all government, semi-government and private buildings.  

On Tuesday morning, various political parties, schools, colleges, university departments, social and cultural institutions took part in a morning procession to Shaheed Minar.  

A discussion meeting, cultural program and award distribution program were organized in the auditorium of the District Art Academy on the occasion of the Great Martyr's Day and International Mother Language Day. 

Chattogram District Commissioner Dr. Md. Aminur Rahman was the chief guest in the discussion meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman and moderated by Assistant Commissioner (Land Headquarters) Rajib Hossain.  Special guests were CMP Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy, Range DIG Anwar Hossain, District Police Superintendent SM Shafiullah, Metropolitan Freedom Fighters Unit Commander Mozaffar Ahmad, District Parliament Acting Commander Bir Muktijoddha AKM Sarwar Kamal Dulu.  

At this time, officials of various levels of Chattogram divisional and district administration, officials of public and private institutions, representatives, journalists of print and electronic media were present in the event.  At the end of the program, prizes were distributed among the winners of the spelling, beautiful handwriting, quiz and drawing competitions at the District Arts and Children Academy on the occasion of the day.

Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr Aminur Rahman said, twenty-one means not bowing down.  In 1971, Rao Farman Ali said that to destroy a country or its language, poets, writers, professors, journalists of that country should be killed.  So he carried out massacres till December 10-14 to kill poets and writers of our country.

 He said, "My message to you is to lay down your arms, take up your pen, build an enlightened society - this should be the spirit of today's twenty-one."

 In the discussion meeting, special guests highlighted the significance of Great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day.  Besides, news, photographs, information and videos related to the language movement were displayed in various open and populated places of the city, including the municipal model school and college premises and outer stadium.
