Int’l Human Rights Day observed at IU

International Human Rights Day-2023 was observed at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Sunday.

Marking the day, the Department of Law and Land Management (LLM) held a rally in front of the Mir Mosharraf Hossain Academic Building at 11.00am . After parading the main roads, the rally ended at the Mrittunjoyee Mujib Mural.

Later a discussion meeting was held there after releasing pigeons, a symbol of peace.

IU Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Sheikh Abdus Salam addressed the event as chief guest while special guests were Treasurer Professor Dr Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan, Acting Registrar H M Ali Hasan and Proctor Professor Dr Shahadat Hossain Azad under the presidency of Chairman of Law and Land Management Department  Assistant Professor Shahida Akter.

Dr Sheikh Abdus Salam said, 'Bangladesh lies in grade-B regarding the category of Best human rights observing countries since 2011 after the formation of Human Rights Commission in 2009.'

He also mentioned Gaza and Rohingya issues and the irresponsibility over human rights of the world leading countries.

It is noted that, Human Rights day is observed all over the world on 10th December every year.

The date was chosen to honor the United Nations General Assembly's adoption and proclamation, on 10 December 1948.
