Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) hosted an Innovative Agricultural Machinery Seminar and Exhibition Fair on Sunday under the theme 'Making Production Systems More Profitable Through the Development of Agricultural Machinery and Appropriate Technology (MMD)'. The seminar took place at the university’s central gallery, while the exhibition was set up in front of the Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose Academic Building.
JUST’s Agro Product Processing Technology (APPT) department organized the event with funding and technical support from the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI). The fair aimed to promote advancements in agricultural technology and innovation.
Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Mazid, the Vice-Chancellor of JUST, inaugurated the event as the chief guest. He emphasized the importance of overcoming farming technology challenges to meet basic needs and boost exports. He encouraged BARI to provide students with research opportunities, which could enhance both agricultural productivity and student learning.
Dr. Kawsar Uddin Ahmed, Chief Scientific Officer of BARI’s Regional Agricultural Research Center in Jashore, chaired the seminar. Dr. Md. Nurul Amin, Project Director of the FMD Project, presented the keynote paper, highlighting sustainable farming practices using advanced machinery.
The event brought together notable figures, including Dr. Md. Sirazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology; Dr. Shirin Nigar, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology; Dr. Mrityunjay Biswas, Chair of the APPT Department; and Dr. Subrata Mondal, Chair of the Fisheries and Marine Bioscience Department. JUST Proctor Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain and Student Counseling Director Dr. Md. Mir Mosharraf Hossain also attended, alongside faculty members and students.
The fair showcased innovations aimed at improving agricultural practices, with a focus on sustainable and profitable solutions for farmers.
