Damurhuda Upazila Agriculture Office has taken initiatives to protect the farmers from lightning and thunder through setting up ‘Bojro Center’ (Lightning Protection Center) at the upazila of Chuadanga district.
According to sources, a Bojro Center has been set up using ‘lightning arrester' at village Chhutipur in Damurhuda upazila of the district. Lighting Arrester protects the lightning and thunder.
And there will be no lightning hit to the working farmers within one kilometer area of the center. A tube-well and dustbin are at the premises of the center for drinking pure water and putting garbage.
Shakhawat Hossain Babu, a farmer of Chhutipur area said the farmers are working at the crop field with no fear of lightning and thunder.
It is learnt that two farmers of village Chakulia and Modna in the upazila were killed by lightning and thunder a few months back. For this reason upazila agriculture officer Moniruzzaman took a plan to set up Bojro Center for the safety of the life of farmers.
Agriculture Officer Moniruzzaman said setting up works of Bojro Centers at village Joyrampur, Kurulgasi, Hayhtpur and Nopikhali are going on. The works will be completed very soon.
He also said that Deputy Commissioner Nazrul Islam Sarker, UNO of Damurhuda Dilara Rahman and Upazila Chairman Ali Munsur Babu appreciated the implementation of Bojro Center.
Azizul Hoque, Chairman of Notiputa Union Parishad told the Bangladesh Post that there are no shelter houses in crop field areas.
When natural disaster hits at the areas, the farmers suffer from this, even die. If the Bojro Center are established at all unions, farmers will work at the crop filed with safety.
It may be mentioned here that after setting up Bojro Center at every villages of the upazial, farmers will take shelter in rainy season and other summer season for safety and rest.
On the other hand the garbage of the crop field will be dropped in the dustbins for good environment.
