Initiative taken to stop extortion in Bogura

The Bogura District Police has taken an exceptional initiative to stop the extortion of money launderers during purchasing construction materials for the construction of houses or buildings in Bogura under the slogan 'Police will go to the people'. 

Bogura district police has declared zero tolerance to help any builder who buys sand, bricks, cement, rods and any other construction material from wherever he wants.

Taking this exceptional initiative, District Superintendent of Police Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan BPM (Bar) is directly leading the campaign to curb this extortion and all the builders in the district are now relieved.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Sanatan Chakraborty, media spokesperson of Bogra District Police said, “Under the leadership of the district superintendent of police and under the management of former officer in charge SM Badiuzzaman, banners have been put up in a total of 518 buildings under construction in the district so far. 

It states that the builder or owner can purchase any construction material from a convenient place of their choice.”

Strict legal action will be taken against those who try to buy or sell any type of construction material against their will or demand  extortion. 

The banners also include the contact information of District Superintendent of Police, Additional Superintendent of Police of the district and the officer in charge of the concerned police station to report any extortion related allegations.

Praising the courageous initiative of the district police in solving this long-standing problem and promising full cooperation to the district police in this endeavor, Bogura district Awami League general secretary Ragebul Ahsan Ripu said, “The harassment of builders in building houses or buildings is a long-standing one. 

He opined that the initiative of the district police would be a model for the whole country and the plan should be adopted in phases all over the country.”

District Superintendent of Police Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan BPM (Bar) said, “The initiative was taken by the IGP of Bangladesh Police. Under the direction of IGP Dr Benazir Ahmed, the district police is working with zero tolerance to conduct crime-friendly policing in the midst of conducting people-friendly policing activities and controlling the coronavirus pandemic.”
