Industries ministry already implements 45 pc of ADP

The implementation progress of development projects under implementation in the Annual Development Program (ADP) for the Fiscal Year 2021-2022 by the Ministry of Industries and its agencies till November 2021 is about 47%; Where the implementation progress at the national level is about 19 percent.

This information was given at a meeting to review the progress of implementation of the projects included in the annual development program in the conference room of the Ministry of Industries on Thursday. Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun and State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder were present as special guests at the review meeting chaired by Industries Secretary Zakia Sultana. Also present were concerned officials of the Ministry of Industries, heads of various agencies and corporations under the Ministry and various project managers.

It was informed at the meeting that there are a total of 33 projects in the annual development program of the Ministry of Industries in the fiscal year 2021-2022. Of these, 30 investment projects, 02 technical assistance and 01 self-financing are under implementation. In all, the allocation for these projects is Tk 4,006 crore. Of this, Tk 1,203 crore has been allocated for the Geo sector, Tk 2,618 crore for the project assistance sector and Tk 48 crore for the company's own finance sector. Till November 2021, Tk 1,855.35 crore has been spent against the projects.

Speaking as the chief guest at the meeting, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun MP said the progress made by the Ministry of Industries in implementing ADP till November 2021 is satisfactory; But we have to do better.

Referring to the recent visit of Keru & Company (Bangladesh) Ltd. to Chuadanga and the inauguration of sugarcane threshing for 2021-2022 season, the Industries Minister said that he had a meeting with Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder, Industries Secretary Zakia Sultana and sugar mill authorities. I have instructed the concerned to come up with high yielding sugarcane varieties to overcome the continuing losses of the sugar industry. Besides, modernization of mills will continue. Similarly, we need to take effective steps to reduce losses in other sectors. He instructed the heads of agencies / departments to formulate a proper plan in this regard and to implement it. The Minister directed to open a second unit at Keru & Company and to formulate a new project to utilize the unused land owned by the corporations in Tongi.

Speaking as the special guest, State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder MP said that the progress of Buffer Godown construction project in different districts of the country is slowing down to facilitate the storage and distribution of fertilizers. Legal action will have to be taken against the syndicates who have increased the price of fertilizer in different districts of the country, underweight and underweight fertilizer bags. He said that the place of BSCIC should not be overcrowded and its proper use should be ensured. He called upon all to fulfill the responsibility entrusted to them with honesty, devotion and patriotism to turn the non-profit organization into a for-profit organisation.

In his speech, the Industries Secretary said that the unnecessary expenses of the institutions should be reduced and the manpower should be brought down to a reasonable level.
