Industrialist dies for lack of ICU

A prominent industrialist of Chattogram died without getting ICU bed in any hospital of Chattogram. The industrialist is Haji Mohammad Yunus, managing director (MD) of the city's container depot Esack Brothers Limited. He was 70 years old.

He died on last Sunday night at the Chittagong Metropolitan Hospital due to lack of ICU.

According to the family members of the deceased industrialist, Haji Yunus suddenly fell ill at around 6 pm. He was rushed to the city's GEC Medical Center on an emergency basis. 

After waiting there for a long time, he was not able to be admitted and was taken to the nearby Chittagong Metropolitan Hospital. Doctors advised her to be admitted to the ICU unit as he needed immediate ICU support.

But as no ICU bed was vacant at the Metropolitan Hospital, they agreed to admit him. The family also contacted several other hospitals in the city for ICU beds but no beds were found vacant. Many hospitals refused to admit him because he had corona symptoms.

Finally, the industrialist was called by air ambulance to be admitted to the United Hospital in Dhaka. But he died at Chittagong Metropolitan Hospital around 10 pm before the air ambulance arrived.

Haji Yunus was the managing director of Esack Brothers Limited a large container depot in Chittagong as well as the director of North Kattali Nikunja Residential.
