Indian national dies in Jashore jail

An Indian national has died in Jashore Central Jail. He died while taking bath inside the jail on Wednesday morning. Doctors at the emergency department of Jashore General Hospital confirmed his death.

The deceased was identified as Shamim Samir, son of Dhanendra Nath of Junetapur Srinagar under Gaishree police station in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh in India.

Tuhin Kanti of Jashore Central Jail said that Samir entered Bangladesh illegally through the Indian border in Rangamati district. On March 8 in 2019, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Rangamati District sentenced Samir to one year imprisonment. He was later lodged in Feni Jail. Samir was sent to Jashore Central Jail in March 2000.

Tuhin Kanti also said that three letters were sent to the Indian government to send Samir back to his country after his sentence expired. But he was living in the jail for not getting any response from India. He fell sick on Wednesday morning and died he went to take a bath. He was rushed to Jashore General Hospital where the on duty doctors declared him dead.
