The Indian High Commission, through its Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), hosted a musical event on Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the legacy of Kazi Nazrul Islam, the national poet of Bangladesh. The evening was dedicated to Nazrul's Shyama Sangeet, a collection of devotional songs he composed for the goddess Maa Kali. Nazrul’s Shyama Sangeet is widely respected in both Bangladesh and India, symbolizing his deep spiritual connection and artistic contributions.
Prominent artistes Tito Munshi, Mridula Samadder, and Bijon Chandra Mistry performed a selection of Nazrul's Shyama Sangeet, adding a soulful touch to the evening. The audience enjoyed the performances that showcased the beauty and devotion embedded in Nazrul's work.
Speaking at the event, Shri Pranay Verma, the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, highlighted the significance of Nazrul's contributions to the cultural bond between India and Bangladesh. He emphasized that Nazrul’s works, especially his Shyama Sangeet, represent a shared cultural heritage that fosters deeper people-to-people and cultural ties between the two countries.
