Troops of India and China were locked in a face-off along the unresolved border on Wednesday in eastern Ladakh, official sources said on Thursday. The standoff that lasted a day was, however, resolved after delegation-level talks, they said.
The confrontation took place near the northern bank of the picturesque Pangong lake, a popular spot for trekkers, in Ladakh, two-thirds of which is controlled by China. Indian Army sources said tensions soared when Indian troops on patrol were confronted by the soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army of China. This resulted in a scuffle with the two sides rushing reinforcements soldiers to the area, the sources added. "There was a face-off between the two armies but it got over after the delegation-level talks between two sides. The face-off is over now and it had de-escalated and disengaged fully after delegation-level talks yesterday [Wednesday]," the sources said
The armies of the two countries were involved in another eyeball-to-eyeball situation at the same place six years ago. Army sources said yesterday’s incident occurred due to differing perceptions about the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the de facto border between India and China. Troops of India and China were locked in a 73-day face-off at Doklam on the trijunction of borders between them and Bhutan in 2017 before it was diplomatically resolved in August.
