India, Bangladesh trains' frequency increased

India has decided to increase the frequency of two passenger trains from Kolkata to Dhaka and Khulna to enhance people to people contacts. Over 16 lakh visas were issued last year from Dhaka as Bangladeshis travel to India for almost everything from tourism to medical emergency.

Maitree Express now runs four days a week between Dhaka and Kolkata while Bandhan Express runs a say between Kolkata and Khulna. Now both of them will run one more day a week. The additional trip of Maitree Express will commence on February 11 from Dhaka and return on February 12 from Kolkata.

The additional trip of Bandhan Express will commence from Kolkata on February 16 and return the same day from Khulna, according to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
