Published : 30 Dec 2020 09:31 PM

An indefinite transport strike on all the routes of Pabna started from Tuesday with a 6-point demand.

After a 72-hour ultimatum given by Pabna District Bus Truck Owners Workers Unity Council ended, they announced the transport strike.

Meanwhile, as a result of the strike, the suffering of the common people has reached its peak. Especially the passengers going to Dhaka are suffering a lot.

Habibur Rahman Habib, convener of Pabna District Bus Truck Owners Workers Unity Council and President of District Motor Owners Group, said on Wednesday noon that bus owners and workers of Shahjadpur in Sirajganj have been beating drivers and helpers of Pabna coaches for no reason for a long time.

Apart from this, the movement of bus trucks over Shahjadpur is being obstructed and the owner of Pabna is forcibly collecting tolls from them. Driver workers of Pabna coaches did not get any result from the concerned authorities.

He further said, “We had given a 72-hour ultimatum to realize our 6-point demand with a permanent solution to this problem. As the demands were not met, all types of vehicles in Pabna are on strike from Wednesday morning”.

Abul Ehsan Khan Rayon, General Secretary of Pabna District Motor Owners Group, said, Pabna bus owners and workers had held meetings with bus owners and workers in Sirajganj and Shahjadpur but no solution could be found.

“We have been forced to go on strike to find a lasting solution to this problem. If necessary, a larger programme would be held with motor owners and workers of North and South Bengal”, he added.
