Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has said that the benefits of development will not be visible unless the living standards of the poor are improved. They demand congratulations on the change that Vijay Nagar has made on the banks of the Chhara by adopting the UNDP (LIUPC) project.
He said, humans are the best creatures on earth. People have a role to play in every aspect of development. People can change their own destiny if they want. He hoped that with the financial and technical support of FCDO, UNDC, LGED and the project run under the local ministry, the fate of marginalized people could be changed.
He said this while inaugurating and inspecting the work of CDC Climate Sustainable Infrastructure Project at Vijay Nagar Chhara in North Pahartali Ward on Monday morning.
The Chief Guest was Mr. Robert Chatterton Dixon, British High Commissioner. CCC CEO Md. Shahidul Alam, National Project Director (Joint-Secretary) Md. Masum Patwary, UNDP Resident Representative Sudipta Mukherjee, Climate Change Team Leader John Warburton, Councilor Zahurul Alam Jasim, Reserved Councilor Taslima Secretary Muhammad Abul Hashem, Program Manager Farzana Mustafa, UNDP Town Manager Md. Sarwar Hossain Khan were present.
British High Commissioner Mr Robert Chatterton Dixon said Vijay Nagar was a mountainous region. I am fascinated to see the marginalized poor living together in unity. Talking to them seemed like they wanted to move on. I applaud their interest in moving forward. It is safe to say that if they continue to do so, they will be able to enjoy a better life. He sincerely thanked the CCC Mayor for his cooperation in the implementation of this project.
