Import-Export trade thru Benapole port suspended

Import- export trade between Bangla­desh and India has been suspended through Benapole port on Monday Morning. Indian traders have suspended import -Export trade through Benapole-Petrapole port as a part of protesting against the harassment of Indian truck drivers by BSF. As a result, thousands of trucks are stuck on both sides.

Specially high perishable goods were damaged as many traders turned the trucks and taken the trucks to Bhomra port. Import-Export trade between the two countries was closed on Sunday due to National Mourning Day.

Benapole Port Director Abdul Jalil said Indian businessmen told that the Indian truck drivers were constantly harassment by BSF in front of Petrapole Port. Until the BSF harassment is not stopped, they will not continue import- export trade between the two countries.

However, despite the closure of import and export trade between the two countries, the activities of Benapole port were normal. 

Benapole Custom House Commi­ssioner Azizur Rahman said, Import -export trade between the two countries through Benapole port has been suspended since morning. However, the work in the port is normal. The unloading of goods from the port is continuing.
